Citizen Bare has been pretty busy in the past few weeks. We have been trying to record a small demo that we can include in an Electronic Press Kit (EPK)/Disc that will be used to get gigs at different venues. We have also been figuring out how we can best market and promote ourselves, cover our bases, and keep making progress for achieving the minor goals.
Tonight we have a gig at the Monkey House, Winooski, VT with Gneiss and the High Spirits. We are very excited to play and are looking forward to the crowd that we have been getting word will be there.
More GREAT news! We received an acceptance letter to play First Night, Burlington, VT today! We are not sure about time slot, or venue details, but as soon as we do, we will be sure to pass them along.
More immediately, we are trying to find an “in” for the Burlington, South End Art Hop. Andrew and John played at the Rotary Club for the event last year and had a blast! This year, with a full band, we are looking to attract some more attention and gain some more fans that would come out to our shows.
Finally, there is also some discussion about holding a party/event/bash sometime around Halloween. Everything with this prospect is up in the air, but if we can figure out the logistics…you can look forward to a good time with CB and some friends. That would be a blast!
Alright. Time to go now. Look forward to seeing everybody who can make it at the Monkey House tonight!

Hey Guys,
Sometimes I get thoughts in my head and just gotta get em out. Sometimes those thoughts turn into songs, poems, emails, discussions and blogs. Sometimes those thoughts stay with me a long time and sometimes they are fleeting, turn into one of the hundreds of songs I have written that will never played for anyone but myself.
Today I have been thinking about being a grassroots musician as opposed to a professional musician. What’s the difference you say? Well I am glad you asked. You see a grassroots musician is one who plays not for money but for the betterment of the community, obviously sometimes money of all amounts is involved in this process. I guess it’s almost like a means/ends discussion.
My main reasons for these thoughts have been sparked by the recent 90th birthday of the great Americana song writers ever Pete Seeger and also by book(Bound for Glory) that I have been by his mentor Woody Guthrie. These two men, along with countless others paved the way for people like RIchie Havens, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Dar Williams, Bruce Springsteen and countless others to make a profit from their talents. But watching the coverage on Pete Seegers birthday party and seeing and hearing about everything his energy has gone towards over the last 90 years got me excited for my journey.
At one point my goal was to make money from music, in some way shape or form. Mostly I wanted to sing but I also really enjoy writing music, which makes the singer/songwriter genre a win/win for me. But after spending some time abroad and realizing the competiveness of the inustry my mind has changed. I think that playing local events and offering up music to the greater good of the community is the way to go, so that the talents of the individual enrich the people and music is able to do what it is supposed to do.
Inspire Creativity amongst the community.
Please don’t misunderstand what I am saying and think that if you are a professional musician you can not inspire the community. I am speaking more to the industry that ropes people in and makes them into something that will sell and in doing so zap all the creativity out of them.
So hopefully that is what I accomplish everytime you come out to a show, we inspire creativity in your life.
Enjy it while you got it

Hello Everybody
Citizen Bare has another gig at the Monkey House on Tuesday, August 5th, at 8pm. Like always, they will be playing a mix of original and cover songs. Of course you can look forward to the comedy that they (Andrew) bring(s) to the stage too.
A special treat that everybody can look forward to is that John’s cousin Jason will be sitting in on a CB song. Jason is from Connecticut and is an excellent guitar player. He is currently studying Music Business at University of New Haven.
Yet another special treat is the blues jam that will be happening after CB’s set at 10pm. John, Jason, and as far as we know…John’s dad (Allen) will all be participating. I know what you are thinking…10PM on a Tuesday night??? I can’t possibly stay up that late. The last blues jam John participated in finished around 12:15am on Wednesday morning… But it was a blast! If you are able to ward off the sandman…the blues jam is a lot of fun.
So…
Dust off your dancing shoes
Come to the Monkey House and have a couple brews
Watch your friends Citizen Bare
Then dance to the blues without a care
Be there or be…Rhombus!

Last night was a blast!
Thank you to all of our friends and family that came out to see us at the Monkey House last night. We had an enjoyably indulgent night of musical expression that took us places that we did not expect. From the debut of our song “Drop”, a bluesy version of “For What it’s Worth” by Buffalo Springfield, to our psychosomatic rendering of the Beatles “Helter Skelter” CB truly had a good time.
Thanks to Max @ The Monkey House for doing a tremendous job with the sound! He also did a spectacular job heading up the blues jam last night. Jam on Max! Anybody who is interested in seeing and hearing some good blues can go down to the Monkey House on the first and third Tuesday of each month to enjoy their blues jam starting around 10pm.
Here is the set list that Citizen Bare performed last night, and the extra songs that we played. All songs are written by Andrew Patterson, John Gratton, or Citizen Bare unless otherwise noted.
