June Shows

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Hey Fans of Citizen Bare!

Thanks for your patience and your support with Citizen Bare trying to find some different venues to play at. We have some good news regarding summer dates; Not only do we have a gig at the Monkey House on June 15th, we also have been given a date for a gig at Higher Ground. :) Citizen Bare has been given the June 17th, 8:30PM to 9:10PM time slot for one of their Northern Exposure Wednesday’s. We are really excited about this opportunity and appreciate all of your support. What a great opportunity to be in the unique position to promote two shows at two very different venues within the same week. We hope that we can entice you all into coming to both events and having a good time with Citizen Bare.

Gig’s

Monday – June 15, 2009

Venue: The Monkey House
Event: Citizen Bare
Time: 9:00pm to 11:00pm
Charge: No Cover
Location: The Monkey House, 30 Main Street, Winooski, VT 05404 – (802) 655-4563

Citizen Bare has been playing at the Monkey House for almost two years now and we really like showing our appreciation for the opportunity that they have given us in their venue by bringing in lots of people. We know that 9pm on a Monday is hard for many of you to make it out to see only Citizen Bare, so we are working on getting some special guests to come and grace the stage from 8pm to 9pm. As soon as we firm up those plans, we will let you know in another update.

Wednesday – June 17, 2009

Venue: Higher Ground
Event: Northern Exposure
Event time: 8:30pm to Closing
Citizen Bare time slot: 8:30pm to 9:10pm
Charge: $5/ticket
Location: Higher Ground, 1214 Williston Rd., S. Burlington, VT 05403 – (802) 652-0777

This will be the first time that Citizen Bare gets a chance to play at Higher Ground and we really need as many of you to come out to this show as possible because the more people who can make it, the better our chances of getting future gig opportunities.

Citizen Bare understands that two nights out in one week can be a rough one. We hope to see you at both gigs but will be so honored if you can make it to even one of them. We really appreciate the support of all you; our fans, friends, and family. Our opportunities would have dwindled long ago without you.

Other News

Citizen Bare is starting to create some merchandise like t-shirts, bumper stickers, and possibly/hopefully an EP CD. In the coming days we will post a poll on our blog/website to gain your help in selecting our first t-shirt design.

Thanks
Andy and John

Higher Ground Possibilities for Citizen Bare

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Hey Guys,

I had mentioned before that John and I were looking at other possibilities for Citizen Bare to play in the area.  We are exploring an opportunity to play at higher ground in the Northern Exposure summer concert series but we have to be able to presell 25 tickets for 5$ a pop. This means that Citizen Bare needs to make a $125 investment that will need to be recovered by selling the tickets to you…our fans, friends, and family.  We were wondering what the interest may be in coming to see Citizen Bare play on a Wednesday night in July.  If we can sell more than 25 tickets, it is even better for Citizen Bare in getting future gigs.

Please e-mail back to let us know whether or not you would make time for a Wednesday in July and if you would purchase a $5 ticket so we can recoup our $125.

A Little More Info
The event would be an All Ages show on some Wednesday night in July.

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you out at one of the great local venues we play at:)

Grassroots Music

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Hey Guys,

Sometimes I get thoughts in my head and just gotta get em out. Sometimes those thoughts turn into songs, poems, emails, discussions and blogs. Sometimes those thoughts stay with me a long time and sometimes they are fleeting, turn into one of the hundreds of songs I have written that will never played for anyone but myself.

Today I have been thinking about being a grassroots musician as opposed to a professional musician. What’s the difference you say? Well I am glad you asked. You see a grassroots musician is one who plays not for money but for the betterment of the community, obviously sometimes money of all amounts is involved in this process. I guess it’s almost like a means/ends discussion.

My main reasons for these thoughts have been sparked by the recent 90th birthday of the great Americana song writers ever Pete Seeger and also by book(Bound for Glory) that I have been by his mentor Woody Guthrie. These two men, along with countless others paved the way for people like RIchie Havens, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Dar Williams, Bruce Springsteen and countless others to make a profit from their talents. But watching the coverage on Pete Seegers birthday party and seeing and hearing about everything his energy has gone towards over the last 90 years got me excited for my journey.

At one point my goal was to make money from music, in some way shape or form. Mostly I wanted to sing but I also really enjoy writing music, which makes the singer/songwriter genre a win/win for me. But after spending some time abroad and realizing the competiveness of the inustry my mind has changed. I think that playing local events and offering up music to the greater good of the community is the way to go, so that the talents of the individual enrich the people and music is able to do what it is supposed to do.

Inspire Creativity amongst the community.

Please don’t misunderstand what I am saying and think that if you are a professional musician you can not inspire the community. I am speaking more to the industry that ropes people in and makes them into something that will sell and in doing so zap all the creativity out of them.

So hopefully that is what I accomplish everytime you come out to a show, we inspire creativity in your life.

Enjy it while you got it

May 4th gig @ the Monkey House 9PM

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Hey Y’all,

I guess this is kind of coming at the 10th hour but I did want to write a quick blog to inform all of our friends that we are playing a gig at the Monkey House in Winooski, VT on Monday May 4th.

John and I are really looking forward to this one, feels like it has been forever since we have played out, even though it was only last month. But I guess since we played like 3 times in two weeks it seemed like we should start playing more. Ah but with John and I both being full time IT guys, part time students, full time dads and husbands that just doesn’t appear possible. So for the time being we will have to settle for doing a one month gig in the Burlington area.

We are going to try to set up some shows at some different venues and recording is always a possibility. Well like I said this was going to be quick so this is end of my blog. I look forward to seeing you out at shows and hearing from you via email, facebook and twitter.

Enjoy it while you got it:)
