A few new Songs

Hey Guys,

I wanted to get the lyrics out for some of the new songs that Citizen Bare has played out recently.

Drop

On and On

Special Kind (Let’s Change)

So with out and more delays here are the songs

On and On

You speak your mind and you start to believe in

every word you say like you’re a savior

to the lepors in thier scars widows

and children they’ll be leaving

So that man who spoke to you with conviction

said words that ran right through you you don’t know

if you could make it if you had to break

the promises you believed you could you could be

smiling at the movie screen you project your thoughts

and share your means

crying you break their hearts when you refuse to be

what they want and it goes

nah nah nah nah nah and on

nah nah nah nah don’t stop

nah nah nah you broke it

nah nah nah nah nah and on

Controlling the masses is easy like playdough

easy like windmills but hard like jello

you can not hold them you can not control them

it’s not the way you said it would be at all

the good intentions leave you wanting wishing for

easy things like breaking rocks hearts

promises you said don’t worry about it

The genocide comes in the morning for the demons, dogs

termites and cockroaches that are caught in the kitchen

taking last night dinner in

unconditional mourning

over takes you in horrible timing

the children’s pleas become your grave

alive to commerce but your soul begins to fade

Drop

where’s the time where’d we go

I can’t understand it all and I may never know

who to thank for the peace, I don’t think I’ll understand

all the safety I’ve received

When I wake up in the morning sun

i’ve gone about my morning business

the days will always wear on

When I drive off into the sunset

weary from my day

weary from the transactions

hope it lasts I always pray

Mothers send your sons to fight the holy war

against the people who want us dead

every single one

There’s no rhyme or reason

for their killing ways

jehovah does not approve

when allah sends them to their graves

And sometimes I wish they would just drop the sacred bomb

the one that helps me sleep at night and protects our precious wrongs

won’t this be a better place when we’re all dead and gone

That’s the most I ever care to think about eve and her cursed/blessed fall

Is it time to shake hands place the knife in the right one

before you show your plan

whose the snake and whose the fox looking for the lost lamb

to SSSSSSSSSSS

when i greet for the first time I always watch my back

always keep my knife drawn in case i need to attack

I think you are watching me I’m so scared to know

if you see the color of my heart or the places I want to go

the more I get to know you the easier the attack

the closer we seem to get still the knifes behind my back

every time i open up i’m afraid my heart you will attack

sure I’ll shed a tear

when they lie you in your grave

because I always pretend it’s me in their

helps me to show the pain.

Jesus if your listening, to this unrighteous voice

I pray they didn’t change too many of your life giving words

I don’t think I could handle it if loving is a lie

your forgiving was a story just to make us shed our minds

it’s like tale of creation i heard from a wise woman

there was nothing about adam, the snake or the garden

something about a turtle a mother and a son

i think that’s it anyways

when are they gonna drop the bomb

i’ll dance in the fall outs rain

it warms me to core

burns away the silly pain

revives the dying soul

it didn’t rob you of your innocence

you freely gave it away

can’t call to mind another time

or tasting a sweeter  rain

I’ll Drop

Special King (Let’s Change)

soon enough now it st not even gonna matter

we’ve fallen so far can get ourselves out with a latter

everybody talking up their special kind of spin

special kind of language special kind of sin

we’ll hear the new sound of a revolution coming

when people rise up so sick from running

on with out cause except hate for the others

filling up on shit surprised by the wretched borders

even though we came in the middle of the night

like a trojan horse caught blinded by the light

we’ve said our evening prayers believing that we’re right

believing that righteous nothing done out of spite

oh lets change

lets stop this game

waiting for the suns light brought on by the morning

we’ll lead our holy charge on without a warning

kill the greedy bastards in the middle of their play

in the middle of their lying and decay

what’s right is wrong

what’s spoken is sung

you did it now what’s done is done

you really can’t change really can’t explain

except that it sux

you did what you did

brought on by unrighteousness

that they taught you was

the only way to live

you didn’t have to listen

didn’t have to give in

but now you gotta live with it

oh lets change

lets stop this game

I heard Dr King all the way from heaven

said see my holy purposes railroaded by the devil

you do not have to listen the TV spreading fear

you can live a life of wonder no matter what you see or hear

June Shows

Hey Fans of Citizen Bare!

Thanks for your patience and your support with Citizen Bare trying to find some different venues to play at. We have some good news regarding summer dates; Not only do we have a gig at the Monkey House on June 15th, we also have been given a date for a gig at Higher Ground. :) Citizen Bare has been given the June 17th, 8:30PM to 9:10PM time slot for one of their Northern Exposure Wednesday’s. We are really excited about this opportunity and appreciate all of your support. What a great opportunity to be in the unique position to promote two shows at two very different venues within the same week. We hope that we can entice you all into coming to both events and having a good time with Citizen Bare.

Gig’s

Monday - June 15, 2009

Venue: The Monkey House
Event: Citizen Bare
Time: 9:00pm to 11:00pm
Charge: No Cover
Location: The Monkey House, 30 Main Street, Winooski, VT 05404 - (802) 655-4563

Citizen Bare has been playing at the Monkey House for almost two years now and we really like showing our appreciation for the opportunity that they have given us in their venue by bringing in lots of people. We know that 9pm on a Monday is hard for many of you to make it out to see only Citizen Bare, so we are working on getting some special guests to come and grace the stage from 8pm to 9pm. As soon as we firm up those plans, we will let you know in another update.

Wednesday - June 17, 2009

Venue: Higher Ground
Event: Northern Exposure
Event time: 8:30pm to Closing
Citizen Bare time slot: 8:30pm to 9:10pm
Charge: $5/ticket
Location: Higher Ground, 1214 Williston Rd., S. Burlington, VT 05403 - (802) 652-0777

This will be the first time that Citizen Bare gets a chance to play at Higher Ground and we really need as many of you to come out to this show as possible because the more people who can make it, the better our chances of getting future gig opportunities.

Citizen Bare understands that two nights out in one week can be a rough one. We hope to see you at both gigs but will be so honored if you can make it to even one of them. We really appreciate the support of all you; our fans, friends, and family. Our opportunities would have dwindled long ago without you.

Other News

Citizen Bare is starting to create some merchandise like t-shirts, bumper stickers, and possibly/hopefully an EP CD. In the coming days we will post a poll on our blog/website to gain your help in selecting our first t-shirt design.

Thanks

Higher Ground Possibilities for Citizen Bare

Hey Guys,

I had mentioned before that John and I were looking at other possibilities for Citizen Bare to play in the area.  We are exploring an opportunity to play at higher ground in the Northern Exposure summer concert series but we have to be able to presell 25 tickets for 5$ a pop. This means that Citizen Bare needs to make a $125 investment that will need to be recovered by selling the tickets to you…our fans, friends, and family.  We were wondering what the interest may be in coming to see Citizen Bare play on a Wednesday night in July.  If we can sell more than 25 tickets, it is even better for Citizen Bare in getting future gigs.

Please e-mail back to let us know whether or not you would make time for a Wednesday in July and if you would purchase a $5 ticket so we can recoup our $125.

A Little More Info
The event would be an All Ages show on some Wednesday night in July.

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you out at one of the great local venues we play at:)

Grassroots Music

Hey Guys,

Sometimes I get thoughts in my head and just gotta get em out. Sometimes those thoughts turn into songs, poems, emails, discussions and blogs. Sometimes those thoughts stay with me a long time and sometimes they are fleeting, turn into one of the hundreds of songs I have written that will never played for anyone but myself.

Today I have been thinking about being a grassroots musician as opposed to a professional musician. What’s the difference you say? Well I am glad you asked. You see a grassroots musician is one who plays not for money but for the betterment of the community, obviously sometimes money of all amounts is involved in this process. I guess it’s almost like a means/ends discussion.

My main reasons for these thoughts have been sparked by the recent 90th birthday of the great Americana song writers ever Pete Seeger and also by book(Bound for Glory) that I have been by his mentor Woody Guthrie. These two men, along with countless others paved the way for people like RIchie Havens, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Dar Williams, Bruce Springsteen and countless others to make a profit from their talents. But watching the coverage on Pete Seegers birthday party and seeing and hearing about everything his energy has gone towards over the last 90 years got me excited for my journey.

At one point my goal was to make money from music, in some way shape or form. Mostly I wanted to sing but I also really enjoy writing music, which makes the singer/songwriter genre a win/win for me. But after spending some time abroad and realizing the competiveness of the inustry my mind has changed. I think that playing local events and offering up music to the greater good of the community is the way to go, so that the talents of the individual enrich the people and music is able to do what it is supposed to do.

Inspire Creativity amongst the community.

Please don’t misunderstand what I am saying and think that if you are a professional musician you can not inspire the community. I am speaking more to the industry that ropes people in and makes them into something that will sell and in doing so zap all the creativity out of them.

So hopefully that is what I accomplish everytime you come out to a show, we inspire creativity in your life.

Enjy it while you got it

May 4th gig @ the Monkey House 9PM

Hey Y’all,

I guess this is kind of coming at the 10th hour but I did want to write a quick blog to inform all of our friends that we are playing a gig at the Monkey House in Winooski, VT on Monday May 4th.

John and I are really looking forward to this one, feels like it has been forever since we have played out, even though it was only last month. But I guess since we played like 3 times in two weeks it seemed like we should start playing more. Ah but with John and I both being full time IT guys, part time students, full time dads and husbands that just doesn’t appear possible. So for the time being we will have to settle for doing a one month gig in the Burlington area.

We are going to try to set up some shows at some different venues and recording is always a possibility. Well like I said this was going to be quick so this is end of my blog. I look forward to seeing you out at shows and hearing from you via email, facebook and twitter.

Enjoy it while you got it:)

Citizen Bare Update and Year in Review

Greetings and Happy Holidays to all friends of Citizen Bare,

2008 was a great year for us, we had a chance to play out almost every month except for the November and December, wrote some new tunes, played with friends and family on stage, prepared for recording and made lots of new friends. We really appreciate all the support that we have gotten over the last year and half and hope to continue moving the direction that we are currently taking.

Both John and I are currently trying to finish up our Bachelor degrees as well keeping ourselves busy with work and family, but that does not keep us from trying to make socially charged good music. Currently we are working on recording a 5 song demo that will include a song or two that we have yet to play out live. We have really enjoyed playing at the Monkey House in Winooski as well as the New Moon Café in Burlington and we are also hoping to play out some different venues around the state.

We will start 2009 off with a show at the Monkey House on January 26, at this time we are the only band that will be playing but make sure to check back in at our MySpace, Facebook and blog for updates. We look forward to a busy 2009 and to connecting with old friends and new.
