Diesel Trucks Spewing Toxic Fumes

January 18th, 2008

Alright… It’s time for a rant.  I haven’t written one even though I have so many.

This morning on my way into work it was snowing, traffic was going a little slower than normal, and there were a bunch of different diesel trucks all around.  I understand that diesel gets better miles per gallon, but I think it is safe to say that the output is not any better than a gasoline powered truck.  I mean come on…  You can only see big plumes of black smoke come out of the stack of one of those machines so many times before you have to admit the folly of continuing to use a combustible material that emits toxins into the environment.

The introduction of Commercial Electric Trucks can not come soon enough in my opinion.  Probably more-so the introduction of Hydrogen Fuel Cell/Electric hybrid Commercial Trucks can not enter our society soon enough.  We already produce enough industrial hydrogen for the creation of hydrocarbons to fuel every vehicle in the world with straight hydrogen.  If we were to decouple ourselves from hydrocarbons, we could decrease emissions from vehicles and households by 100%.  If we perfect creation of hydrogen as a utility using sustainable green technologies it would be possible to cut the cumulative emissions from vehicles, households, and production by at least (the arbitrary number of) 65% of what they are now; I suspect the number would be higher.

Hydrogen is ready to begin using.  Our capitalist society just can’t handle the economic changes that need to take place because we are so centered around oil.

I can’t wait to breathe diesel/combustible free air.
